A gifted rider in a world where ladies never race, Maggie Linden is determined that her horse will become a champion. But the one man who could help her has vowed to stay away from thoroughbred racing forever.
An Irishman far from home, Cullen McGrath left a once prosperous life in England because of a horse racing scandal that nearly ruined him. He's come to Nashville for a fresh start, hoping to buy land and begin farming, all while determined to stay as far away from thoroughbred racing as possible. But starting over proves harder than he'd wagered, especially when Maggie Linden's father makes him an offer he shouldn't accept yet cannot possibly refuse.
Maggie is certain that her mare, Bourbon Belle, can take the top purse in the inaugural Peyton Stakes, the richest race ever run in America. Maggie only needs the chance to prove it. To give her that chance—and to save Linden Downs from being sold to the highest bidder—Maggie's father, aging, yet wily as ever, makes a barter. His agreement includes one tiny, troublesome detail—Maggie must marry a man she's never met. A man she never would have chosen for herself.

Set against the real history of Nashville's historic Belle Meade Plantation, the most influential thoroughbred stud farm in America's history, To Win Her Favor is a passionately stirring, highly acclaimed marriage-of-convenience story involving overcoming post-Civil War obstacles and racial discrimination.

"Alexander continues her ode to the magnificent Belle Meade Plantation, using it to illustrate questions of race, faith, and loyalty that continue to haunt today. Richly drawn secondary characters add depth, humor, and a sobering perspective on how Reconstruction affected racial relations, social status, and economic fortunes. Fans will appreciate, and applaud the smooth merging of social commentary and a sweet love story."

"In To Win Her Favor, Tamera Alexander exposes the ugliness of the bigotry and prejudice prevalent in the post-Civil War South, especially toward freedmen and immigrants. She counters with the unfailing love of God that gently reprimands, lovingly restores, and gives extravagant gifts. Alexander's writing carries the story effortlessly, creating a landscape rich in the scents and sights of the Reconstruction era . . . Through the difficulties overcome and the refining of their characters, Cullen and Maggie learn to trust the Lord with their future, as the Lord redeems their pasts through their struggles. The story's complexity provides abundant storylines for future books with these characters."

"In this sizzling masterpiece of passion and heartache, author Tamera Alexander sets a fast and steady pace that engages the reader right to the exhilarating finale. Throughout, the plight of the Negroes and their sufferings were written with credibility and compassion, touching me deeply. Similarly, the appalling treatment of the Irish in these times was also thoughtfully reflected upon. Not all grave, To Win Her Favor is lavishly tempered with charm, atmosphere, and a romance that will have you flipping open your southern fan! Highly recommended!"
~ Noela Nancarrow, Overcoming with God Reviews
"Alexander brings in characters from earlier series titles (To Whisper Her Name), yet this book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. Strong characters, a sense of the times, and the themes of love, friendship, and the importance of loyalty and determination make this a triumph."
~Library Journal Starred Review
"As with To Whisper Her Name, I LOVED this book. I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this and it has exceeded my expectations. Tamera Alexander flawlessly weaves history, racism, horse racing, and in-depth character development. Even the 'minor' characters were fleshed out, and I am overjoyed to know that one of them will have her chance for love in Alexander's upcoming July 2015 novella To Mend a Dream. I also love the cameos Alexander includes from previous books. Tamera Alexander gets better with every book and I cannot wait for her next one!"
~ Katie from Goodreads
“No insta-love here! Readers get to experience the growing attraction between the headstrong and determined Maggie and the swoon-worthy Cullen. The deeply drawn characters move the story along at a steady pace – even Bucket, the dog, and Bourbon Belle, the mare, will win readers over.”
~ RT Book Reviews, 4 stars
"Marriage of convenience stories are my favorite and To Win Her Favor by Tamera Alexander is no exception. The challenges and dynamics of the unlikely relationship between a southern lady and handsome Irishman sizzle with tension and passion. The plot is as powerful as the magnificent thoroughbreds the heroine rides. A moving story of overcoming post-Civil War obstacles and racial discrimination. Readers won't be able to put down the book until the last page."
~ Jody Hedlund, bestselling author of Love Unexpected

"Tamera Alexander has done it again! To Win Her Favor is peopled with fascinating, richly-drawn characters that drew me into their very hearts and souls. Maggie and Cullen's story captures the drama and tragedy of the post-Civil War era, but more importantly, it captures the humanity of those who triumphed after a dark time in our nation's history to rebuild lives marked by joy and anchored by faith."
~ Deborah Raney, author of The Face of the Earth and The Chicory Inn Novels series
"There's a level of realism to Cullen and Maggie that captured my emotions and immediately drew me to them."

A Note from Tamera . . .
In To Win Her Favor, we meet Savannah Darby, a dear friend of Maggie's. Savannah is a secondary character in To Win Her Favor, but she was such an endearing character . . . she needed "the rest of her story" told. So I wrote To Mend a Dream, a Belle Meade Plantation novella. I hope you enjoy it!
About To Mend a Dream:
Savannah Darby would do almost anything to revisit her family home. So when new owner Aidan Bedford—a Boston attorney and former Union soldier—seeks to redecorate the house for his fiancée, Savannah jumps at the opportunity. But the clock is ticking. Can she find the box her father supposedly hid there during the war before her assignment is completed? And before she sees yet another battle lost on the home front. This time, one of the heart.
