Wonderful Waco

·by Tamera Alexander

Earlier this month ago, my daughter Kelsey and I journeyed to Waco, TX—the land of Chip and Joanna Gaines and all things Magnolia—and we had such FUN!!

THANK YOU to everyone who’d been there before and gave us such fabulous advice on what to do and see.

And since a picture paints a thousand words . . .

Me and Kels at the start of our Magnolia weekend! #motherdaughtertime

750+ miles from Nashville to Waco—and every one of them was soooo worth it!

I snapped a pic of Joanna’s words of wisdom that are posted at Magnolia Market. I especially love them because my word for 2018 is . . . intentional.

Just lovin’ the gorgeous Friday we spent at Magnolia! (Because rain and C-O-L-D moved in the next day!)

Saturday morning at 6:15AM we arrived at the newly-opened Magnolia Table for breakfast. Even arriving that early, we waited for nearly an hour. But it was so worth it!! Don’t miss Magnolia Table when you visit!

They don’t make it easy to decide what to order! We had the Farm Breakfast. So yummy!

Kels and I both loved this encouragement/challenge that’s oh-so-needed these days. But we decided we’d likely forget our phones if we stuck them in those pouches. So we just chose to ignore our phones as we ate, chatted, and soaked up the atmosphere with the friendly folks beside us.  : )

Don’t you love that mug?! (On the wall to the left of Kels, you can see one of the leather pouches mentioned above.)

Kels posted this on Instagram that weekend. And yes, I ate gluten! And sugar! And lived to tell the tale! I savored every bite, too! Including every morsel of that thick-cut peppered bacon. SO. GOOD! Those yummy little cuties in the tiny cast iron skillet are housemade tater tots! But never fear, fellow low carbers… My Keto lifestyle only took a brief vacation. I’m now back in the saddle! We also ate at Torchy’s Taco. Their Avocado Taco…oh!! There aren’t enough yummy things to say!

While we were at Magnolia Market waiting for breakfast to arrive, our server brought us a cute little “game”. Conversation starters. So clever! More on these below!

All in all, it was a very special weekend and I loved sharing the experience with Kels. While we were there, though, I got a call from Atlanta and learned that my precious Dad, Doug, had suffered a stroke. Kels and I returned to Nashville on Sunday afternoon and, soon after, I headed to Atlanta to spend the week with Dad. Which was also a very special time.

Dad’s doing some better but the stroke definitely took a toll.

He’s undergoing physical, occupational and speech therapy for the next six weeks. We’re praying he’ll regain much—if not all—of what he lost. Time will tell. But Dad is soon-to-be 86 and full physical healing here may not be in God’s good and perfect will for him.

God’s thoughts and ways are so much higher than our own. He knows best, and I’m fully trusting and resting in that truth, that blessed assurance—even when it hurts.

Me and Dad just three weeks ago. I’d so appreciate your prayers for him.

Finally, back to the conversation starters the server gave to us…

This was one of my favorite questions they asked. No wonder as to why!

I’ll be eager to hear your responses to that question today!

Much love friends,

Tammy

P.S. When I caught a glimpse of Murphy yesterday, I just had to include this pic too (even though I bought this crate from Magnolia Farms three years ago)! #MurphyCam
