Morning friends,
I’m out the door to Bowling Green, Kentucky soon and am eager to see those of you who are gathering at the Bob Kirby Branch of the Warren County Public Libraries tonight. We’re going to have fun.
But first, a giveaway!

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, I’ve long held a strong connection with Southern history. And what historical event defines the South as much as the War Between the States? Family homes became headquarters for troops, churches and schoolrooms became hospitals for the wounded, and the hills thick with pine and meadows lush with grass became hallowed ground with the blood of the dead and dying.
The years of Reconstruction forged a steel in the hearts of surviving men and women for a new life, a new country. I find myself fascinated by what they accomplished in the face of overwhelming odds. And remember, ultimately, so much good came from this time of immense suffering in our history too. So many advances in medicine, botany, mental health and social justice, to name a few.
All of this is what inspired me to write To Win Her Favor—along with the magnificent thoroughbred history of Belle Meade Plantation, and a handsome Irishman who strolled into my imagination one day. : )
What’s a favorite time in history you like to read about or study?
