Temporary Goodbyes

·by Tamera Alexander

Dad’s safely Home!

You might have already read this on Facebook or Instagram, but if not. . .

Last Monday morning, my sweet father breathed his last earthly breath and is now in the glorious presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This first pic is from about a month ago at dinner one night. Then me and Dad in December 1984 just before I walked down the aisle. And finally, me and Dad in August 1961 as our journey together just began. Thank you, Lord God, for making this man my Dad. #Jesusintheflesh

We were gathered around Dad’s bedside as he passed from this world to the next, and it was a sweet and peaceful passing. The presence of the Holy Spirit was thick in the room as was the undeniable sense of Jesus’ eternal victory over death. I stood in awe even as tears fell.

I’m so incredibly grateful for the gift of being present when both of my parents passed from this life to the next. First in 2009 with Mom, and then last Monday—almost 10 years later to the day—with Dad.

This pic is one of the last photos of Mom and Dad (from a family cruise we took together in June 2009, only weeks before Mom passed from gallbladder cancer).

Bless you all for traveling this road of dementia with me, with us, and for sharing your stories, and for praying for my Dad, Doug, so often. You’re faithful friends, and I’m forever grateful.

As you’re reading this, I’m on the road with my family headed back to Atlanta for Dad’s funeral tomorrow. I’m delivering a eulogy and so is my brother. We miss our precious Dad so much. But in the same breath, we’re praising God that he’s no longer struggling with a failing mind and body, and that he’s safe—and whole—in the arms of Jesus! And that he’s with Mom again too. I can well imagine that reunion!

If the Holy Spirit brings us to mind tomorrow, I’d so appreciate your prayers for me and my family as we celebrate a godly man’s life, and formally say a temporary goodbye—thanks to what Jesus did on the cross.

Much love, friends,

Tammy
