Better late than never? Not sure that’s true in this case, but oy…
It just hit me—at 8:47 PM tonight!—after going on a walk with Joe and Murphy that this wasn’t the 2nd Tuesday of the month but the 3rd. Which is my day to blog. And yet all I have on my heart and mind right now is my sweet Dad . . .
Me and Dad in July of this year. Love this man.
I’ve been keeping the roads between Nashville and Atlanta pretty warm lately, going back and forth. Quick trips to check on Dad and his sweet wife, Esta. And I’ll be making another quick one back down there again soon.
As I wrote last night in an eUpdate to my newsletter buddies, I’d so appreciate your prayers for him. Dad’s had a rough last few weeks (months, actually).
He’s experienced several TIAs, his memory continues to fade (dementia), and he’s growing more feeble. And while I’m praying that the Lord will see fit to grant Dad several more years with us, I’m praying far more that Dad will sense the closeness of Jesus’ presence and strength as Dad endures these trials of aging.
As a dear friend, Judy McMahan, used to say, “Growin’ old ain’t for sissies!”
Me and Judy back in 2012. She went Home to be with Christ in January 2016 after a 17 year battle with cancer. What a dear friend! And a hoot, to boot!
Those in Christ know that we have the steadfast hope—the guarantee—of a better life to come. And Dad and I talk about that better life quite often these days. So heaven feels close. Still, my heart aches when I think of saying goodbye to him. Even a temporary goodbye. He’s our “last parent” and I’m cherishing every minute with him this side of heaven. So…
Thanks so much for joining in prayer for him with me. And please let me know how I can pray for you. Truly. I’ll watch for your comment on this post and will lift you up the same!
With bunches of love from my corner of Nashville,
Tammy
