a standalone novel

2024 Carol Award Winner | Best Contemporary novel
#1 AMAZON Release in Southern US Literature

Sometimes secrets just won't stay hidden . . .

Two women from different centuries living in the same house share strikingly similar journeys.

Claire Powell’s life is turned upside down when her beloved husband admits to a “near affair.” But when Stephen accepts a partnership with an Atlanta law firm without consulting her and buys a historic Southern home sight-unseen—it pushes their already-fractured marriage to the breaking point. Claire’s world spirals, and she soon finds herself in a marriage she no longer wants, in a house she never asked for.

In 1863, Charlotte Thursmann, pregnant and trapped in a marriage to an abusive husband, struggles to protect her unborn child and the enslaved members of her household. Desperate, she’s determined to right the evils her husband and others like him commit. But how can one woman put an end to such injustice? Especially if her husband makes good on his threat to kill her?

Both Claire and Charlotte discover truths about themselves they never realized, along with secrets long hidden that hold the power to bring God’s restoration—if only they choose to let it.

A note from Tamera . . .

Thanks for making A Million Little Choices—my first contemporary, first first-person-POV, and first dual-story line novel—an Amazon bestseller as well as an ECPA bestseller. Two months in a row.

The stories that have lived inside me the longest are often the most difficult to write, and A Million Little Choices was certainly that. Not only because of the subject matter—marriage and infidelity—but because these characters are all so real to me and the settings so tangible, that "first words on the page" often felt frustratingly inadequate and thin compared to the living, breathing movie inside me.

But I drew closer to Christ in the writing, and pray you do, too, in the reading.

A fun "twist" on the night of the 2024 ACFW Carol Awards . . .

When my novel A Million Little Choices finaled for a Carol Award for Best Contemporary Novel from AMERICAN CHRISTIAN FICTION WRITERS last year, I would have loved to have attended ACFW's 2024 conference. But due to deadlines and obligations, I couldn't. So I asked Deborah Raney—my fabulous writing critique for 20+ years who was also honored at that conference with the ACFW 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award—to accept the award for me IF my novel won. Well, it did!

Only, Deb forgot. LOL

So as I'm watching the livestream of the ceremony that night from Nashville, Deb texts me from her table asking who is accepting my award. "YOU!" I text back, full well knowing I hadn't sent her a speech yet. Long story short, I texted her a quick (fake) speech and then waited for her response.
Meanwhile, two weeks prior, I had emailed the real speech to her husband, Ken, who printed it out and promised to give it to her IF my name was called.

When they called my name, I honestly wasn't sure which I was more excited about—winning the Carol Award or knowing that Deb would now have to read the real speech I'd written to honor her. You see, I so wanted to be there to honor her as she received the Lifetime Achievement Award. She's given so much to me over the last two plus decades, and has taught me so much. But this was almost as good!

Also, it was a God thing that Deb “forgot.” Because that woman never forgets anything.

Thankfully, my wonderful friend Tricia Goyer captured it all on video. That's her lovely, contagious laughter in the near background.
